The Hawaiian Community Center Association dedicated to perpetuating and preserving the Hawaiian Culture by 1) hosting the annual Ho'oulu Lahui Craft & Cultural Fair where workshops are conducted to share in a day of exchange, the traditional dance, music, language, values and traditions, and arts and crafts of the people of Hawai'i; 2) supporting local na halau and their cultural presentations of music and dance; 3) organizing community events that bring visibility and revenue into the Hawaiian community; and 4) by participating in various fundraising events in support of local community organizations.
Each year, support is asked of the HCCA to coordinate special events in the community that do not appear in its annual budget allocations. Events such as concerts that feature talent from Hawai'i and workshops that are needs-specific. The annual Ho'oulu Lahui Cultural Fair is an example of the work that HCCA does and is the result of a need to bring local halau together for one day each year to share each other's experiences. It is a time to rekindle old friendships, a time to experience first hand the values and traditions of the Hawaiian people, a time to learn, and a time to grow. It serves as a cultural enrichment experience that contributes to the perpetuation and preservation of the Hawaiian culture. It is a social event that brings the community together in the spirit of aloha (love) and lokahi (unity).
